Support the Friends of IPAC
Contribute with a single or monthly donation
We rely on volunteers and donations to operate and assist the avalanche center to fund personnel and purchase gear. Federal funding to support Avalanche Centers nationwide is limited so donations to expand the work of avalanche awareness comes from people like you. Your support will enable IPAC to continue to provide weekly avalanche advisories and expand their education curriculum.
Donate to a Project
Here are current projects we are working on funding. Designate your donation to one of these projects and know that your donation will be making a difference for the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center. Thank you for your support!
Instructional Equipment
The friends group provides education and awareness including safety courses here in the Idaho Panhandle. Instructional equipment needs include but are not limited to transceivers, shovels, probes, snow saws and tools.
Forecasting and Operations
We are making progress towards a permanent, full-time Forest Service Director, filling this crucial Director position gives us the potential to add to regular avalanche forecasts days through the season. We are also working to continue the growth of avalanche information and education offerings for the greater Idaho Panhandle area, helping our increasing users stack the odds in their favor.
Doug Abromeit Avalanche Scholarship
Every year the Friends of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center celebrates the work and life of Doug Abromeit (1948-2013) by starting the winter season with the Doug Abromeit Avalanche Scholarship. Doug was a native of Sandpoint, Idaho. The scholarship is intended to further avalanche education and awareness for those in our forecast region of North Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Western Montana. The Scholarship will provide one recipient admission to a Level 1 Avalanche Course conducted by the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center.
