$375The Friends of Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center is holding a motorized Level 1 Avalanche Safety Course in Wallace, Idaho. The course is compromised of two portions: an online classroom followed by two days (Saturday and Sunday) in the backcountry near the Silver Valley. Students will receive a certificate upon completion of the field days.

Description
This course is designed specifically for snowmobilers and snow bikers, and focuses on developing a solid foundation in avalanche knowledge and how it applies it to mountain riding. With an emphasis on riding time, IPAC instructors demonstrate systematic approaches for sorting and prioritizing information in the complex environment of decision-making in the backcountry. This is the essential course for any backcountry rider. Topics covered include: preparation, planning, and execution of a backcountry ride based on avalanche conditions, avalanche terrain identification, hazard mitigation and safe travel techniques; weather, snowpack, and stability analysis; and avalanche rescue techniques.
Details:
- Prerequisite: Students must have completed an Avalanche Rescue Fundamentals course
- Students are required to complete an online course prior to the pre-trip meeting. The online course takes about 5 hours to complete.
- The online course and pre-trip meeting are required for participation.
- Students must be strong intermediate-advanced riders to participate.
- Students must provide all required equipment:
- Snowmobile or Snowbike
- Avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe
- Backpack (25-35L)
- Layered clothing appropriate for spending an entire day in the winter backcountry

Enrollment Policies
Age Policy
Students must be 18 years of age or older unless accompanied by parent/guardian except the Youth Backcountry 101 course.
Refund/Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend a course that you have registered and paid for, and you notify us that you are unable to attend at least 1 week before the date of the course, you will receive a 100% refund minus any transaction or processing fees. If you notify us less than 1 week before the course, you will receive a 50% refund.
