Every year the Friends of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center celebrates the work and life of Doug Abromeit (1948-2013) by starting the winter season with the Doug Abromeit Avalanche Scholarship. Doug was a native of Sandpoint, Idaho. The scholarship is intended to further avalanche education and awareness for those in our forecast region of North Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Western Montana. IPAC Community:

IPAC is up and running for the season and the mountain snowpack is taking shape. Even though we are not issuing avalanche danger ratings, we are posting observations whenever we get out in the mountains. We encourage you to do the same whether you’re skiing, riding, or hunting. Having public input truly helps make our forecast products better. You can CLICK HERE to submit an observation and share information with your avalanche community. We are posting Snowpack Updates on Tuesday’s and Friday’s through November, and regular forecasting begins in early-December.
