More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Dug a hole on an East aspect at 5400' elevation on 40 degree slope.

Total snow depth of 250cm.

In the single column compression test the top 25cm was failing at 1-3 taps.  Another failure at 7 taps 30cm down.  Then the dragon in the snow pack failing clean 100cm down at 17 taps.  While the same 25cm and 30cm failed in the extended column there was no propogation.  Coluldn't trigger the 100cm with taps from the shoulder but when extra force was applied the whole extended column slide into the pit.  

Snowed moderate to heavy until around 2pm when the sun came out for a visit.
