Spokane Mountaineers Mountain School
Every year IPAC assists the Spokane Mountain School with the avalanche safety portion of their class. One to two instuctors from IPAC meet the class at Stevens Lake in the Willow Creek drainage just west of Lookout Pass. In that mountain setting we talk about snowpack, weather, and terrain and how it effects a mountaineering expedition. Route finding is a major torpic in the class and we discuss it in the very real terms of the groups objective, to summit Stevens Peak. After the avalanche lesson the group usually ends the day with self-arrest practice or cravass rescue. Registration for this class and more information can be found at the Spokane Mountaineers website.
