Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center is continuing with Snowmobile specific avalanche education this winter. We will be offering two FREE Avalanche Awareness courses that include a Field Day to introduce avalanche education.  Each class consists of a two hour evening classroom session followed the next day by a full day field session. Course dates are being confirmed now and will be listed here soon. Please check back for more details.

Topics covered included: how to read and understand the avalanche advisory, avalanche terrain recognition, the affect of weather on avalanche hazard, recognition of signs of snowpack instability, decision making skills for riding around or in avalanche terrain, and basic avalanche companion rescue procedures.

Participants in the field session will each need a reliable mountain/deep snow style snowmobile and the riding skills necessary for travel off trail in deep snow. A modern avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, and helmet are required equipment for the field session and must be provided by the participant.

Space is limited to 8 students per class and preregistration is mandatory.
